Teams associated with Steve Spurrier lost twice on Thursday Night. While the New York Giants cruised to a victory over the Washington Redskins, who were formerly coached by Spurrier, the South Carolina Gamecocks were trying not to go into the history books.
They failed - South Carolina became the first ranked team since Mississippi in 16 years to lose to Vanderbilt. If that wasn’t bad enough, the Gamecocks (ranked 24th in the Nation) became the highest ranked team beat by the Commodores since 1937! This is not Spurrier’s kind of record. Vanderbilt definitely didn’t win with a high-powered offense - they had 225 total yards! What they did do was force South Carolina into 3 turnovers and play relatively mistake-free, ball-control football themselves.
The game did allow a little hope for those cheering for South Carolina, though, as can be seen by our users’ posts:

Gamecocks score and pull it to within 7!

The is 7:39 left, enough time for South Carolina to reward my pick!

But one of our users also foreshadowed the end result:

Getting excited? Might not lose your bet after all? Frankly though SC looks awful tonight. If they win it’s going to by the hair on their butts.
