Dallas: Do They Make The Playoffs?

After last Saturday’s pathetic show in Texas Stadium, it’s hard to believe but the Cowboys are still alive in the race for the last playoff spot. Do they deserve to be? Hell no, But then again after watching the Giants come from out of nowhere and win the Super Bowl last year, anybody who enters the playoffs this year has to be feeling frisky. The problem is, determining which Cowboys team is going to show up in Philadelphia to battle the Eagles for the final wildcard berth on Sunday. Will it be the gutless team that did everything but crap on the star in the middle of the field in the farewell game of Texas Stadium, or will it be the team that manhandled the world champion New York Giants just a week before? I’m telling you these days its easier to predict plot twists on ABC’s Lost than it is to determine how the Cowboys will play.
Last year when the Giants entered the playoffs they had three things going for them, a good coach, a strong running game and a defense that destroyed anything in it’s path like a Gulf Coast Hurricane. This year, Dallas on the other hand, has a coach who roams the sidelines looking as clueless as a dog whose just been shown a card trick. Honestly 90% of the time he looks more miserable than a husband that got roped into attending a baby shower. The offense on the other hand has had it’s moments during the season, but what’s distressing is that whenever it has been pitted against one of the elite defenses in the league it has folded like a house of cards. What’s worse is that while the offense has been inconsistent, the defense has been worse, I mean one minute their pushing the Giants offense around for 60 minutes and then the next their giving up 60 yard runs to CONVERTED FULLBACKS! Again, NO ONE knows what to expect from this team.
The good news for Dallas is that despite all of their inconsistancies they do have the talent to get to the Super Bowl, the bad news is that in order to do that they’re going to have to win four straight games on the road starting on Sunday in Philadelphia. That’s especially disturbing news when you consider the fact that they haven’t won four games in a row all season and have a record of 5-5 against teams with winning records. It’s to the point where if the Cowboy’s season was a a game of Texas Hold em’ then they’d be all in, sitting on 5th street, shooting for inside straight up against a full house. Still, as bad as it looks for the Cowboys, long odds are better than no shot at all and if you don’t believe me, just go out and ask a Redskin fan how they feel about they’re playoff chances this year!
