In case you missed out, Cubs’ ace Carlos Zambrano was ejected in the most dramatic fashion from yesterday’s 5-2 victory over the Pirates. This generally isn’t big news, but Z’s frustration clearly stole the show with his display vs the umpire, which is a tall order when your manager is Lou Pinella.

-Errant throw hits Under Armour sign
-Remaining anger vented on Gatorade machine

So, if we go off Zambrano’s season openers in the past, the Cubs will either be 0-1 or will leave it up to late inning pitching and hitting.

It seems to be the same old story each year with Zambrano, and quite frankly, I am sick of it! Will he have a breakout year? ESPN analysts say yes year after year but the answer is…. NO! He doesn’t work hard enough in the off-season and is out of shape seemingly every year. Will 2009 be different? Who knows.

For those of you who don’t know, Lou Piniella is tampering with slating Ryan Theriot and Aaron Miles up the middle infield. I think that is a joke! 9 and a half cub fans you talk to are pissed off about the Mark DeRosa trade. Why? Because of his versatility and production. So the answer is to put Aaron Miles at second?

Lou Piniella and ESPN’s Steve Philips Feuding… Awesome

ESPN baseball analyst Steve Phillips might want to steer clear of Lou Piniella when the Cubs play Milwaukee on an April 12 ESPN telecast. Piniella was fuming over a remark Phillips made recently on Chet Coppock’s WMVP-AM 1000 radio show. Asked about Kosuke Fukudome’s rookie season, Phillips criticized Piniella’s handling of the Japanese outfielder.
