Now that Sammy Sosa’s name became just another one of the 104 “protected” names of players who tested positive, as SI.com reported, I decided to take a look back at that infamous Congressional Hearing in 2005. What has happened to everyone since that on Thursday, March 17, that would change the sport of baseball as we know it forever?

Opinion: What to do About Steriods?

Quite predictably, the American public leapt to its moral high ground on Monday in their stark ridicule of Alex Rodriguez. Just like Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, and Mark McGwire before him, A-Rod is feeling the full brunt of America’s hypocrisy. The American public wants to claim that they value winning “the right way.” This is simply not true. The American public values winning. Period. Baseball fans didn’t cheer Brady Anderson for fielding ground balls. They cheered him for inexplicably hitting 50 homeruns. They didn’t cheer Bret Boone for hitting .250 with 74 RBIs. They cheered him for hitting .330 with 141 RBIs the very next year. When Juan Gonzalez, Frank Thomas, and Ken Griffey Jr. had it, they loved them. When they lost it, they forgot about them. So what did you expect Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire to do? America wanted a winner, and they delivered. If America truly wants it done the “right” way, if they truly adhere to this moral stand that they take every time these “shocking” revelations are made…then just as many people would show up to watch the Royals, Reds, and Pirates lose 100 games each this year as will show up to watch the Red Sox and Yankees bash everyone else’s brains in.

Who’s Coming Back First - Barry Bonds or Mark McGwire?

Everyone knows Barry Bonds’ absence from the baseball diamond is not completely voluntary on his part. In fact, he went even so far as to say he’s “not retired” when he took part in celebrations at AT&T Park in San Francisco earlier this summer. The truth is, his rumored steroid use and legal [...]
