Win a halftime contest… become the team’s starting kicker
October 22nd, 2008 | By Dan Posted in Uncategorized
Apparently that’s what may happen down at Texas Tech to a student named Matt Williams if you can believe it. Apparently he was involved in one of those “fan field goal” competitions at halftime during the UMass/Texas Tech game. You’ve seen them before, the type of competition where fratboys and fat drunks are out on the field hopelessly attempting to put a ball through the uprights to win whatever prize the team has brought out this week. They do them in the NFL too.
But apparently there was something different about Mr. Williams. His 30 yard field goal was so good that not only did he win a free month’s room and board (the contest’s original prize), but he may also have won himself a spot on the Texas Tech team as the number 1 kicker.
For those that don’t know Texas Tech’s kicking unit has been pitiful this year, making only about 50% of all Field Goals and has missed 6 PATs so far this year. They’re bad, so bad that a guy from out of the stands has now shown them up in the eyes of their coach. So bad that the team has already asked the NCAA about Williams eligibilty and gotten confirmation that the recent transfer student is infact eligible. So bad that Williams has been confirmed to be traveling with the team this weekend. So who knows, next week if you see Matt Williams on TV kicking PATs for Texas Tech or making his first collegiate field goal, just remember, it could have been you. Had you just taken that halftime contest seriously rather than acting like a drunken jackass.

NCAA Football Picks - Week 2
September 5th, 2008 | By InGameNow Posted in InGameNow, NCAA FB, Picks & Odds
One week has passed, and the fans of InGameNow are clamouring for the lead in the InGameNow NCAA Football Picks Game. Now, we would like to say that all of our fans are skilled, but when you pick Oklahoma over Chattanooga, there is just no skill in that. So let’s look at our users’ picks this week and what they say about them:
milehighsalute - South Carolina at Vanderbilt - “I’ll take South Carolina in the Thursday game. There is no way that Nickson has another 166 yd game! Besides, Cutler’s not there anymore!”

GatorGod15 - Stanford at Arizona State - “I’m taking Arizona State for my pick 37-10.”

yakkerator - San Jose State at Nebraska - “I pick Nebraska to win over San Jose State! Even though, I really would hate to side with the Big Red, their new-found air attack will crush the Spartans thin defensive backfield!”

echinsuocha1 - Navy at Ball State - “HAHA!! Navy no brainer.”

joseph3602 - Miami(FL) at Florida - “Miami needs Cooper and James to show up and the D needs to get to Tebow early and often… I think Florida takes this one in a blowout 35-10.”

LakerRaider - West Virginia at East Carolina - “No chance ECU beats WV. In fact, I think ECU is a little worn out by the VTech game and will get blown by 21.

Tell us what you think of these picks by joining us at InGameNow. Heckle the pickers and give your analysis of the games as well.
And, if you have the personality to rub it someone’s face when you win, join the site and post your pick for Week 3, here’s how:
1. Log onto InGameNow, and set up a user name, if you don’t have one already.
2. Go to the page of the team you want to pick, and find the next week’s game. Post your pick on the game page. Remember only your first pick and the first pick on that game will be recorded in this game.

USC is the new #1, but Who is leading in Picks?
September 3rd, 2008 | By InGameNow Posted in InGameNow, NCAA FB
The NCAA football season began this weekend and so did the InGameNow NCAA Football Pick’em Game. The contest kicked off Thursday with 6 members facing off and continued with the Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday games all being one contest and increased to a total of 11 members. We want more, so read below on how to join! Oflarity has had an easy time of it, picking Miami (FL) over Charleston Southern and Oklahoma over Chattanooga- someone beat him to the gimmes, or at least chastise the guy into making some risky picks!
So through 2 possible games, here are the standings by winning percentage, along with the players latest pick:
1. steelydaniel (2-0) - Alabama over Clemson
1. milehighsalute (2-0) - Colorado over Colorado State
1. amanda31 (1-0) - South Carolina over North Carolina State
1. phillyphanatic (1-0) - LSU over Appalachian State
1. GatorGod15 (1-0) - Florida over Hawaii
1. derekfitness (1-0) - Kansas over Florida International
1. LakerRaider (1-0) - UCLA over Tennessee
1. KanyeWest (1-0) - Northwestern over Syracuse
1. oflarity (2-0) - Oklahoma over Chattanooga
10. athletics68 (1-1) - Cal over Michigan State
11. chudaddio (0-1) - Middle Tennessee over Troy (lost)
Note: The #1 teams are in no particular order, besides oflarity is put last for choosing 2 boring picks!
So, due to the accuracy of the pick, the fact that the underdog team won on the road, and the fact that he accurately picked the poll impact before the game even started, steelydaniel gets a chance to speak his mind:
“As usual, Clemson turned out to be an overrated joke! Tulane will score more points on ‘Bama after a week of Gustav than Clemson did with a summer of training!”
Any response LakerRaider, “I gotta go on record as saying I claimed Clemson would be GREAT this year…BOY WAS I WRONG! But I would also like to go on record as saying I called UCLA and Fresno State victories…West Coast, Baby!”
Good thing he logged that UCLA pick in, and not the Clemson one!
So, all users of InGameNow have until 3:30 pm Pacific Time to post their picks for the week - and hopefully in week 2, people are warmed up, and the trash-talking will begin!
If you want to join in on the NCAA Football Pick’em, join the site and post your pick for Week 2, here’s how:
1. Log onto InGameNow, and set up a user name, if you don’t have one already.
2. Go to the page of the team you want to pick, and find the next week’s game. Post your pick on the game page. Remember only your first pick and the first pick on that game will be recorded in this game.
3. The winner at the end of the season will receive an InGameNowt-shirt and be measured by winning percentage (eligibility is based upon 60% of the user with the most picks). We might also add other divisions, such as a “PeeWee Division” and stick oflarity and his boring picks there!
4. Talk a little trash with your opponents or talk other sports with the fans of InGameNow.

Not Even Dave Wannstedt’s Mustache Can Prevent the Upset
August 30th, 2008 | By InGameNow Posted in InGameNow, NCAA FB
Mustachioed former NFL head coach Dave Wannstedt couldn’t prevent his #25 Pittsburgh Panthers from being upset by Bowling Green at home. Despite picking up 393 yards to Bowling Green’s 254, Pittsburgh just couldn’t hold on to the ball long enough to do anything with it, as Pitt committed four turnovers (1 INT, 3 fumbles). Bowling Green was much better handling the ball, with 1 interception as their only blemish. It was Pittsburgh’s sloppiness that allowed Bowling Green to not only get back in the game after falling behind 14-0 early, but to come back and shut down the Pittsburgh offense completely in the second half.
Wannstedt and his mustache will have to regroup to avoid a similar fate as they host Buffalo next week. In the meantime, discuss all of today’s games at InGameNow!

Michigan Wolverines Try to Avoid Another Opening Day Loss
August 30th, 2008 | By InGameNow Posted in InGameNow, NCAA FB
The Michigan Wolverines are trying to put 2007 as far behind them as possible, as quickly as possible. They were off to a good start in 2008, when they closed the first quarter with a lead of 10-6. But it was all Utah Utes from there, as quarterback Brian Johnson and company scored 16 unanswered points to take the 22-10 lead going into halftime.
Some of the interesting stats from the first half:
UTAH
Brian Johnson: 15/23, 253 yards, 1 TD, 0 INT
MICHIGAN
Nick Sheridan: 11/19, 98 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Michigan Rushing: 10 attempts, 4 yards
